We Could Talk About the Fact That Medical Errors are the 5th Leading Cause of Death in America. The mistakes made by doctors, patients, and other healthcare providers —are the fifth leading cause of death in America, taking the lives of more than 100,000 patients annually; the equivalent of thirty 9/11 bombings. Medical errors go onto injure, disable, and bankrupt another two million patients. And we could talk about the things I've seen with my own eyes and why I'm so passionate about helping to stop them.
We could talk about the fact that every time anyone visits a doctor or a hospital they have a one in four or twenty-five percent chance of being injured or killed by a medical error. The elderly, the poor, the less well educated, minorities and the sick are at even greater risk.
We Could Talk About How to Prevent Medical Errors. The techniques I write about to improve patient provider communication in What Did the Doctor Just Say? have been proven by the Joint Commission, AHRQ the Institute of Medicine and others to reduce medical errors by up to 80 percent

We Could Talk About Healthcare Reform. Medical errors cost our nation’s healthcare system an estimated $37.6 billion dollars per year. Dollars our nation can no longer afford. Patient safety reform is essential to any type of meaningful reform.
We Could Talk About Why Medical Errors Happen. The majority of errors occur because of barriers in communication between patients and providers. It is estimated that 90,000,000 people have difficulty understanding what the doctor says, how to answer the doctors questions or what information they should give to their providers to help keep them save when visiting a doctor or a hospital.

My personal mission is to help save over 100,000 patients and their families from the horrors of a medical error and I can’t do it without you.
I seek to help people and patients by teaching them the techniques and statergies that empower patients to take control of their health and their healthcare safety taught in What Did the Doctor Just Say? into every home in America.
My commitment to this matter is born out of what I have seen in over 20 years of practice as nurse and a nurse practitioner. Because of the things I have seen and know what happen everyday in healthcare setting across our nation and just how dangerous those places can be. I believe the information contained in this book is of vital importance to every person who will enter the healthcare system and to those who love them.
And teaching patients how to help providers prevent medical errors in their case is of major importance to the healthcare system itself. We as a nation can no longer afford to spend billions correcting and paying liability claims for medical errors.
